Fatal accident involving a maritime pilot
With deep sorrow, EMPA mourns the tragic loss of Captain Phillip Brady, who passed away on Monday 12 January following a serious accident during pilot transfer operations off Panama City, Florida. Despite rescue efforts, he sadly did not survive.
This is a tragic loss for the pilotage community worldwide.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow pilots.
Incidents like this are a painful reminder of the risks pilots face every day and the need for the highest level of attention and safety during pilot transfer operations. Pilotage remains essential to safe navigation, yet it is among the most demanding and hazardous professions at sea.
Rest in peace, Captain Brady.
